One of the industry’s largest suppliers of glutaraldehyde, Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based Dow Biocides, a division of the Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich., will increase the U.S. production capacity of the chemical by approximately 60 percent. The new capacity is expected to be operational by January 2009. Glutaraldehyde from Dow is produced at the Institute, W.V., site, which is managed by Union Carbide Corp., a wholly owned Dow subsidiary.

As a biocide, glutaraldehyde is used in formulations to protect against current or future microbial threats. The investment includes incremental expansions, as well as new process technologies.
