Walchem Corp.'s LK Series is motor-driven and has a maximum capacity of 114 gal/hr (432 l./hr) and a maximum pressure of 150 psi. The worm gear, tapered roller bearing and oil bath lubrication provide durability and wear resistance for the mechanically actuated diaphragm (MAD) metering pump. Output adjustment is made with a lockable micrometer. An optional DC variable-speed drive offers external control using a 4 to 20 mA input signal. A range of liquid ends is available for acids, bases, solvents, polymers and slurries. Liquid end materials include PVC, PP, PVDF and 316 stainless steel.
Progressing Cavity Pump
Series 2000 from Moyno Inc. is designed to handle a range of applications from shear-sensitive liquids to difficult-to-process slurries and sludges. The pump design comes in many construction materials and is customizable to specific user needs. Options include a flush gland to allow packing leakage to be flushed away from the pump, preventing potential damage to seals and packing; a fiber deflector to prevent ragging around rotating shafts when stringy materials are present in the fluid being pumped; and a shaft sleeve to protect the drive shaft from wear in highly abrasive applications.

Positive Displacement Tubing Pump

Diaphragm Metering Pump
Milton Roy's MacRoy D Series is capable of flow rates up to 312 gal/hr and a maximum pressure rating of 175 psi. Its check valves with machined seats maintain reliable, low flow performance. A metallic worm drive combined with a variable eccentric stroke adjustment mechanism yields a 10:1 turndown ratio with smooth velocity profiles. Accurate output flow control is ensured with a mechanically actuated diaphragm liquid end that eliminates flow restrictions. Users can choose from PVDF, polypropylene, PVC and 316 stainless steel. A precision lockable, manual stroke mechanism gives users the flexibility to make adjustments whether the pump is running or stopped. Optional accessories include a pressure relief safety valve, back pressure valves, pulsation dampeners and calibration columns.
Rotary, Positive-Displacement Pumps
Designed to handle fluids from 28 to 2 million SSU viscosity, pumps are available from Viking Pump in internal or external gear styles. Line of internal pumps is offered in stainless steel, steel or iron in capacities from 1.5 to 1,500 gal/min at 250 psi. For hazardous fluids and zero-emission applications, the company's Mag Drive sealless pump eliminates shaft leakage. Its rotary lobe pump uses noncontacting lobes in bi-wing and multilobe designs. Made of stainless steel, the lobe pump design offers capacities to 820 gal/min at pressures to 400 psi.
Flowmaster FMT300 is designed for processes with large flow rates in dusty, humid or corrosive environments as well as clean room areas. Offered by Micropump, the tubing pump carries an IP65 protection rating and is suitable for dispensing and filling applications found in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage industries. It also can pump harsh chemicals and abrasive fluids found in chemical processing production environments.
Dry-Vacuum Diaphragm Pump
XDD1 from BOC Edwards is suitable for clean and dry applications such as backing turbo-molecular pumps in mass spectrometers. It can be used as a stand-alone pump or as part of a modular system and offer the benefits of a dry vacuum pumping system, including no oil changes and minimum annual maintenance. Diaphragm life is typically greater than 10,000 hr, and the pump's small footprint is suited for benchtop applications. An integral silencer is fitted to the exhaust to ensure minimum noise.
Maintenance problems in some pumps are due to bearing and seal failures. Barber-Nichols Inc. utilizes a hermetic design that incorporates the motor and pump within the same housing to eliminate the mechanical seal. Pump is suitable for severe environments utilizing either fluid film or rolling element bearings to provide maximum bearing life.
Shurflo Pump Mfg.'s 2088 Series is suitable for high flow, moderate pressure applications. The pump can be used in a range of spot spraying, mini-bulk transfer and fertilizer drip applications that require flows of up to 3.6 gal/min. Pumps are offered in many chemical-resistant materials.
Liquiflo Equipment Co. offers Endura's MC Series, which is designed to transfer process fluids economically. Made of 316 stainless steel, the standard pump design operates at temperatures from -80 to 450oF (-62 to 232oC) at 275 psi. Floating multibearing design incorporates radial springs to minimize edge loading and maximize bearing life and reliability. A range of high temperature and self-priming pumps are procurable.
Canned Motor Pump
Model HRP Type H Basic from Sundyne Corp. is designed for a range of clean, nonvolatile liquids with moderate temperatures. Internal circulation of process liquid, at less than discharge pressure, is through the motor and returned to the pump suction. Features include flows to 1,200 gal/min, heads to 1,200', pressures to 400 psig and temperatures from -140 to 300oF (-96 to 150oC).
Series BM is a glandless, sealed module made of 316 stainless steel. The submersible pump from Grundfos Pumps Corp. provides high corrosion resistance in brackish water and other harsh applications. Stainless steel booster sleeve provides a quiet and safe-to-operate module. Radial bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid, requiring no additional lubrication or maintenance. Stainless steel motor with canned rotor is self-lubricating and requires no maintenance after installation. The unit is stackable or can be installed in parallel configuration for maximum optimization of space.
Model FP 4000 from Fristam Pumps Inc. has a redesigned internal mechanical seal to simplify pump maintenance and a shorter, heavier shaft for long motor bearing life. Redesigned seal has an internal front pull-out design. Single- or double-mechanical seal available on the 3A-approved, clean-in-place pump. Inlet pressure is 150 psi max. The pump can handle product viscosity up to 1,200 cps with a process temperature up to 400oF (204oC). Pumping capacity is up to 2,000 gal/min. Applications include brewery transfer and water supply.
