Maxigas employs the Pressure Swing Adsorption method of noncryogenic nitrogen gas generation, using compressed plant air. The air is filtered and dried through a desiccant air dryer, then passed through a carbon-molecular-sieve bed. The bed preferentially adsorbs the smaller oxygen molecule while the larger nitrogen molecule is passed through. The bed is able to produce a continuous supply of clean, dry nitrogen gas with 24-hour uninterrupted operation, without the need for changing tanks and cylinders.
