Aggreko plc, Glasgow, has signed a $40.4 million contract with the national utility company of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to provide 70 MW of temporary power fueled by natural gas to support the country’s national grid for the next two years.
The contract will help alleviate power cuts and stabilize the national power grid, which has experienced plant breakdowns. Given the urgency of the requirement, Aggreko expects to have the power plant operational in spring 2010. Once commissioned, the plant will run continuously. This is the first contract Aggreko has been awarded in Côte d’Ivoire, and it will be Aggreko’s largest gas-fueled power project.
