A Saudi Arabian refinery has placed an approximately $12.5 million order with Alfa Laval, Lund, Sweden, for Packinox heat exchangers.

The units will be in the catalytic processing section in the production of mixed xylenes, which, among other things, can be used for production of synthetic fibers such as nylons.

“This unique heat exchanger is - despite its huge size - a compact solution compared to alternative solutions,” says Lars Renström, Alfa Laval Group’s president and CEO. Delivery is scheduled for 2011.

According to the company, for a refinery application of this type, one Packinox heat exchanger can replace up to four of the largest shell-and-tube heat exchangers, saving the same amount of space in the refinery.
