Public comments are sought for two IIAR standards: IIAR-3, National Standard for Ammonia Refrigeration Valves, and IIAR-5, Start Up and Commissioning of Closed-Circuit Ammonia Mechanical Refrigerating Systems.

Until September 20, public comment and feedback are sought on the proposed revisions to IIAR-3 as well as a second public review of IIAR-5.

The proposed revisions to IIAR-3, which specifies criteria for materials, design parameters, marking and testing for valves and strainers, are intended to ensure that this standard is up to date and presents the most definitive information. The second public review of IIAR-5 is needed to address substantive changes that IIAR made in response to comments received during the first public review in 2009.

To comment, visit the organization’s website and go to the standards review web page to download a copy of the public review announcement, the draft standard, a survey form and the online comment form for each standard. The web page also includes instructions on how submit comments via regular mail or fax.

In both public reviews, IIAR will use the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) “Canvass Procedure” to develop evidence of consensus among affected parties. In addition to comments, participation in a volunteer consensus body for the proposed standard is requested. This group will be voting on approval of the proposed standard in the coming months.
