Tata Chemicals, Mumbai, has placed a $9 million order for heat exchangers from Alfa Laval, Lund, Sweden.

The heat exchangers will be used in evaporation systems to concentrate sea water brine for production of table salt and concentrated brine for caustic soda production in India. The fresh water generated during the evaporation process will be used as process water.

Tata Chemicals was the India's first salt manufacturer to use vacuum evaporation technology in this process. The Tata Group has been an Alfa Laval customer for nearly four decades.
