A regional cold storage company specializing in temperature-controlled storage and distribution of frozen meat and seafood products has invested in cloud-based technology to manage its operations.

Suffolk Cold Storage in Suffolk, Va., which handles 13 million cases (260 million lb) of perishable food products annually, wanted to rid itself of "back office systems" tasks so it could focus entirely on business operations, says Jim Stoddard, general manager. “Now, we only have one system administrator to oversee operation and maintenance.”

Supplied by HighJump Software, Eden Prairie, Minn., the cloud-based technology with nearly 100 percent uptime has reduced Suffolk's overall staff 22 percent and increased productivity by 40 percent, according to HighJump. In addition, the software firm notes that Suffolk is anticipating an 80 percent reduction in lost or misplaced product.
