In the heat treatment and coatings industries, a range of cooling and chiller devices are used. It is common in vacuum heat treating to use the cooling performance of a chiller to provide cooling to diffusion pumps, as well as heat exchangers on the gas quench operation.

In the plastics industry, chillers can be used for a variety of purposes. Some are used for cooling the hot plastic that is injected, blown extruded or stamped and others are used to ensure productivity levels by cooling down the equipment in the manufacturing process.

Chillers are also used in the printing industry to remove the heat generated by the printing rollers and also cool down the paper after it comes out of the ink-drying ovens.

On machine tools, the spindle and cutting fluid can be cooled by chillers. In EDM processes, chillers cool the machinery. Lasers and their associated power supplies are cooled by chillers, and high powered electronics (used in MRI scanners) also take advantage of chillers to remove unwanted heat.
