Stellar added 98,000 ft2 of warehouse space to the USCS-Turlock facility, bringing the total square footage to 300,000 ft2.

A Jacksonville, Fla.-based architecture, engineering, construction and mechanical services firm, Stellar has completed United States Cold Storage’s (USCS) phase-two expansion of its Turlock, Calif., refrigerated warehouse. Also, Stellar has begun construction on Dot Foods’ expansion of its Mt. Sterling, Ill., facility.

Stellar added 98,000 ft2 of warehouse space to the USCS-Turlock facility, bringing the total square footage to 300,000 ft2. Stellar previously designed and built the 202,000-ft2 phase-one facility.

New additions include a 39,000 ft2, -20°F (-28°C) freezer; two convertible rooms with temperatures ranging from 35 to -20°F (1.6 to -28°C); and a 9,000 ft2 35°F (1.6*C) shipping dock. The facility uses energy-efficient LED lighting and a shrinkage-compensating concrete-slab floor. Construction began June 2011 and was complete December 2011.

At Dot Foods, Stellar is building a 148,000 ft2 freezer addition for Dot Foods’ existing 465,000 ft2 Mt. Sterling warehouse. Stellar is providing full design-build services, including refrigeration and thermal work. The expansion includes a -10°F (-23°C) freezer, two 35°F (1.6°C) shipping and loading docks and a 35°F (1.6*C) connecting corridor. Construction began December 2011 and is scheduled for completion in August 2012.
