Scheduled for October 30 through November 2 in Bellevue, Wash., the 2013 RETA Conference includes exhibits as well as a program of instructional and technical sessions and hot points (infomercial presentations). In addition, the Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association has planned a full lineup of networking events, social activities and the opportunity to study and sit for RETA certification exams.

Hands-On Experience. Eight special programs are designed to walk attendees through actual procedures/situations using standard operating procedures (SOPs) and equipment. These limited-attendance sessions will cover topics such as compressor teardown and reassembly; block valve safety and operation; liquid transfer (dump) systems; refrigerant charging; relief valve replacement; and solenoid valve operation, troubleshooting and rebuilding.

Technical Paper Sessions. Technical paper presentation topics include wet return suction lines; ammonia leak detection; process safety management (PSM); valve safety; the evolving responsibilities of the refrigeration operator; piping considerations for proper insulation; condenser water chemistry; engine room safety; and end user responsibilities as they relate to PSM versus the general-duty clause.
