Iberdrola has awarded Broomfield, Colo.-based Spig USA Inc., a branch of Spig Group, its largest-ever order for complete internal revamping of cooling towers for two combined-cycle power plants in Mexico.
Spig USA will undertake the supply, removal and installation of the internal parts of the cooling towers serving the 1,036 MW Altamira III and IV CCPP and, what is considered to be the biggest in Latin America, the 1,135 MW Tamazunchale CCPP. Work on the two cooling towers, which total 42 cells, will be completed two cells at a time while the rest of the cells remain in operation to a complete shutdown of the cooling towers and the consequent loss of production.
