The annual conference and exposition of the Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association promises a sweet time with Georgia peaches, Atlanta sunshine and, of course, a full schedule of industrial refrigeration training sessions. It even offers hands-on training in some sessions. Scheduled for November 4-7 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, the 2014 RETA Conference also includes exhibits, networking events, social activities and the opportunity to study and sit for RETA certification exams.

Hands-On Experience. Eight special programs are designed to walk attendees through actual procedures, situations and equipment. These limited-attendance sessions will cover topics such as compressor deconstruction and slide valves; compressor shaft seals; oil draining; dual-back pressure regulator adjustment; liquid transfer systems; liquid feed line break; relief valve replacement; and refrigerant charging.

Technical Paper Sessions. Technical paper presentation topics include industrial refrigeration safety; energy management; ammonia gas detection; lubrication; preventing corrosion on the interior surface of metal jacketing used on mechanical insulation; inventory estimation; machinery room codes; piping design and selection; thermosiphon system design; validating ammonia pressure-relief vent design; and machine  targets and tolerances. The complete 2014 RETA Conference brochure in PDF format can be found at http://bit.ly/15JWTvb.

Other Highlights. Among other highlights of the technical conference, seven compressor makers will host manufacturer-specific workshops. Hot point sessions will look at topics such as maintenance reliability in ammonia refrigeration systems and ammonia alarms. Also, immediately preceding the conference, RETA will host two separate, two-day courses that can help attendees prep for specific RETA certification exams (CIRO, CARO or CRES).
