Stellar’s design-build project for poultry processor Bell & Evans in Fredericksburg, Pa., was selected as Food Engineering magazine’s December 2016 “Fab Food Plant.” Also published by BNP Media, Food Engineering is a sister publication to Process Cooling.

After two years of planning, Stellar determined how to expand the packaging and storing operations at the company’s 160,000 ft2 chicken packaging, storage and frozen processing facility.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Stellar provided full design-build and process engineering services for the $50 million plant, which broke ground in March 2014 and was completed in 2015. Sanitation was carefully considered during planning and design, and food safety elements were incorporated. For example, German-imported personnel doors have precision hinges and latching systems that prevent air leakage, which is crucial to maintaining safe air temperatures. The facility also features a chemical sanitation system located 150’ away from any product.
