The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) in Afghanistan will establish a milk processing complex with capacity to process more than 9,246 gal/day (35,000 liters/day) of milk. The $12 million facility will include standard cold storage facilities and a center for producing animal feed.
According to officials, there is a need for more investment in this sector in order to help the country become more self-reliant. A recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations said 75 percent of dairy products are imported into Afghanistan.
