Cooling Tower Gearbox Serves as Drop-In Replacement
A cooling tower manufacturer has engineered a gearbox line to directly replace other OEM gearboxes in field-erected cooling towers.
SPX Cooling Technologies, Overland Park, Kan., says the gearboxes in its M Series Geareducer line are designed to provide primary support to the fan and anchor it against lateral movement. The equipment will withstand shock loads at startup and during speed changes, and it are designed to minimize power transmission losses and sound generation.
The M1311 gearbox is a direct drop-in, aftermarket replacement for Amarillo 1311 gearboxes. It eliminates the need for adaption materials, says SPX. Among its features, the SPX model incorporates an Inpro input-shaft oil seal to eliminate grooving and extend life.
Designed to reduce the speed of the electric motor to optimize fan performance, the gearbox is available in ratios from 7.89 to 14.64.
