For factory-assembled counterflow towers, both induced- and forced-draft types, fill is selected for efficiency. Factory-assembled counterflow towers typically are smaller than field-erected towers, so the fill must provide high surface area and high efficiency as it relates to the amount of cooling potential per unit volume. For such applications, Model CF1200 is available in both mechanically assembled and solvent-bonded versions. Both versions incorporate drainage tips to enhance water removal from the fill pack. The microstructure enhances water- and air-side flows and prevents stratification of temperature gradients within each fluid layer, says the manufacturer.
