Tippmann Innovation will help assess the current and long-term cold storage needs for growers and processors throughout northeast Maine.

With growing demand for cold storage throughout the United States, combined with shrinking refrigerated transport capacity and driver shortages, trucking rates are at record highs. In addition, the service geography of carriers is shrinking. In many areas of the country, the load-to-truck ratio is 10 to 1, which means there is only one truck available for every 10 loads.

The Tippmann Innovation consulting team will focus on how to create a logistics market for regional shippers in enabling them to provide their customers with dependable service at reduced costs. Nick Pacitti, the Tippmann Innovation consulting lead, indicated that the need to create a smaller-scale food logistics hub may be the answer in solving the lack of cold storage.
