A 14-story cold storage facility in Rochelle, Ill., should be operational by the end of the year. Americold’s 183,000 ft2 facility will contain a series of temperature-controlled rooms and be serviced by an automated storage and retrieval system. The company plans to hire as many as 70 new workers.
The new plant is co-located with a conventional freezer building, and it will supplement two existing facilities that Atlanta-based Americold has been operating in Rochelle since 1995. The company’s combined footprint in Rochelle will be 115,000 pallet positions, double its current capacity.
