Penske Logistics opened a 606,000 ft2 freezer/cooler distribution center in Romulus, Mich., that will serve the needs of Kroger. The facility will create more than 400 new jobs.
The $98.5 million facility includes 105 loading docks, -20°F freezers, 35°F coolers and an ambient temperature section. Referred to as the Michigan Fresh Center, it will help ensure Kroger's Michigan stores and customers are readily supplied with fresh and frozen foods. Construction began in fall 2017.
Penske Logistics provides similar warehousing and distribution center management and trucking services to Kroger in other locations throughout the U.S.
