A M King, a fully integrated design-build firm, won two Excellence in Construction (EIC) Eagle Awards from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Carolinas for its work on Aldi Inc.’s regional headquarters and distribution center in Dinwiddie County, Va., and for Cheney Brothers Inc.’s cold storage distribution center in Statesville, N.C.

This marks the third honor bestowed on A M King this year for the Aldi project, a 580,732 ft2 greenfield facility serving approximately 80 Aldi stores in the Richmond-Petersburg, Hampton Roads and eastern North Carolina regions. Project highlights include installation of an ammonia refrigeration system and racking for 25,000 pallet positions.

Cheney Brothers Inc.’s 169,883ft2 cold storage addition to its Statesville distribution center allowed the company to expand its refrigeration capabilities in the region and add more than 100 full-time jobs. The project included a refrigeration system zoned to support numerous interior temperature zones and conversion of a 37,388 ft2 existing cold storage space to ambient temperature storage.
