Can you imagine your community viewing industrial cooling equipment at your plant as cherished landmarks? Such is the case for four cooling towers at Ironbridge Power Station in Shropshire, which have stood since 1969. Once one of the United Kingdom’s largest plants, Ironbridge provided power for 750,000 homes.

The facility stopped generating electricity in November 2015, however, and a demolition project is under way. With the massive towers set to be taken down, local residents have mixed opinions on their impending demise, notes the BBC.
