Roadmap to Cold Storage Efficiency

Cold storage owners may wish to operate as efficiently as possible yet not always know which techniques to employ.

Tapping into its experience with a range of cold storage and processing facilities, design/build firm Star Refrigeration has developed a roadmap for cold storage facility owners and operators. The roadmap focuses on optimizing energy consumption — and reducing energy bills and carbon footprint in the process — since 60 to 80 percent of the total spend, over the life of a plant, is allocated to energy, according to Star.

The roadmap is split into six stages, half relating to constructing a new facility and half geared toward optimizing an existing refrigeration system. Star identifies opportunities that arise during the planning, construction, refrigeration system design, maintenance and systems analysis and monitoring phases.
