Seafood processor Copper River Seafoods opened a cold-storage facility in Anchorage, Ala., with the capacity to accommodate 2 to 3 million lb of seafood. As reported in local media, the company expects to add 40 new jobs once the facility is fully operational.

All of the company’s inventory currently in cold storage in Seattle will be transferred to Anchorage later this summer. In addition, all seafood processed that requires cold storage from this year’s harvest will go directly to the new facility.

According to Copper River Seafoods, which utilized cold-storage facilities in the Seattle area for 15 years, bringing cold storage to Anchorage will provide significant cost savings.
