Ambient temperature and humidity can affect the performance and operation of refrigerated temperature control units (TCUs) and should be taken into account when locating the TCU in manufacturing area.
When the temperature control system is specified, the TCU manufacturer calculates the unit’s cooling capacity based on expected ambient plant conditions such as 68°F at 50 percent humidity. When the TCU is located in an area with HVAC supply, changing ambient conditions do not affect TCU operation. In locations like manufacturing, the ambient temperature and humidity can vary throughout the year.
Under changing ambient conditions, TCUs can experience condensation, loss of cooling power. In a blog post, Julabo offers advice on ways to alleviate these conditions in TCUs operated in manufacturing facilities.
