Design-build firm A M King started construction of a USDA-certified, greenfield distribution facility in Winston-Salem, N.C., for Combs Wholesale Produce Co. The project is scheduled to be complete by April 2021.
When finished, the 40,000 ft2 facility will allow the company to move to a larger space and accommodate expanding product lines and customer base. The scope of work includes seven refrigerated spaces that range from 36 to 60°F (2 to 15.5°C); dry storage ranging from 50 to 75°F (10 to 24); and 14 dock positions. Additional project highlights include utilizing a rack system for refrigeration; 32’ height for maximum product storage; LED light fixtures; and a conditioned dock for displaying and selling fresh produce to the public.
