As a part of its plastic strategy adopted in 2018, the EU goal that all plastic packaging should be reusable or recyclable by 2030. Among the sectors rife for improvement is the area of electronic scrap, notes Hyfra, a Lennox International Co. In fact, in order to extract approximately 1 oz. (300 g) of gold, roughly 900 tons of ore must be mined and processed using conventional methods. Such mining efforts require significant resources and are costly.
The same amount of gold can be produced more easily and cheaply by recycling about 1 to 2 tons of discarded smartphones. In a white paper, “Individual and demand-oriented process cooling for recycling machines,” Hyfra explores how process cooling can improve recycling operations.
