Though the annual IIAR Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo will be held entirely online in 2021 as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has developed a robust program of peer-reviewed technical content focused on the natural refrigeration industries. The online event will take place Monday, June 21, through Thursday, June 24.
The heart of the event remains its technical conference. Among the sessions offered are:
- An all-day session on Thursday focuses on the IIAR Refrigeration Piping Handbook. It that will provide an overview of the content (including spreadsheet calculators) and detailed explanations of the art and engineering methods that are presented. Course topics include pressure drop engineering equations, vertical suction riser flow theory, evaporator and condenser piping methods, plant and machinery room layout, welding requirements, schematics, relief piping, and insulation systems for piping and equipment.
- Technical paper presentations on topics ranging from RAGAGEP, risk-based inspections for PSM/RMP, HAZOP methodology, hydraulic shock in ammonia refrigeration systems and fugitive emissions. Several presentations will be delivered in Spanish as well as English.
- Workshop topics include dry cooling technologies, defrosting finned air-cooling exchangers, determining leak rates from ammonia refrigeration piping, and code and regulatory developments.
Attendees will participate in all sessions via their personal computer using an internet connection and headphones. Virtual content will be recorded and available on-demand, and attendees earn PDH or CEU credits.
In addition, a virtual exhibit hall, provided by Pathable, is open daily during the event. Attendees can interact with natural refrigerant industry vendors in the exhibitor hall experience.
IIAR President Gary Schrift will deliver an address about the state of the industry over the past turbulent year, and during the keynote, best-selling writer Kevin Brown will discuss how to inspire and challenge people to show up every day and make a positive difference at work and in life.
