Heartland Produce Co. purchased an approximately 31-acre land site that will be the future home of its corporate headquarters and cold-storage facility.

Upon completion, Heartland’s new facility will be approximately 206,000 ft2 and employ an anticipated 160 workers. It will expand Heartland Produce’s operational capacity and increase operational efficiencies. The site in Kenosha, Wis., permits for approximately 213,000 ft2 of potential building expansion.

Heartland Produce is the first project to break ground on the site formerly occupied by the Dairyland Greyhound Park. According to its developers, Heartland’s new facility is the catalyst to the redevelopment efforts of the Forest County Potawatomi Community and Zilber Property Group to create a mixed-use development named Greeneway. The developers plan to integrate sustainable practices into the project through green design and construction practices, wellness-centric certifications, enhancements to natural environmental features and the development of high performing, energy-efficient facilities. The development of Greeneway is anticipated to total nearly 1.6 million ft2 in industrial construction, approximately 432 multi-family residential apartment units, and 117,000 ft2 of anticipated future commercial retail and office space.
