A 53-year-old employee of Bowman Andros Products died in late July after entering a cold-storage room at the company’s Mt. Jackson, Va., facility without the proper equipment, the Northern Virginia Daily reports.
The Shenandoah County fire marshal’s office said Russell Conard, of Wardensville, W.V., was pronounced dead at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. Another employee entered the cold-storage room after Conard became unresponsive and attempted to help him but was unable to stay because of the lack of oxygen in the room.
Contact was made with Conard after employees at the facility used a forklift to get the door open. Conard was under cardiac arrest, and treatment, including CPR, was immediately given. He was taken to Shenandoah Memorial, where he was pronounced dead.
