A benchmarking app allows U.K.-based temperature-controlled storage companies to compare their sites’ energy performance against industry best-practice guidelines and predicts potential energy and CO₂ savings.

The no-cost SEC Calculator app requires users to input refrigeration plant details such as energy consumption, facility volume and the price paid per unit of electricity. The calculator then shows how the plant compares against other sites across the United Kingdom and Europe and what sort of energy, CO₂ emission and cost savings could be possible by improving the energy efficiency of the site.

The app was designed and released by Star Refrigeration. The United Kingdom-based company hopes the app can play a role in reducing the sector’s emissions. It can be downloaded from the App Store for Apple devices or the Google Play marketplace for Android devices.
