The differences in performance between block fill and one company’s replacement fill are the focus of a case study focused on retrofit applications.
“Choosing Cooling Tower Replacement Fill,” the case study from Baltimore Aircoil Co., describes a retrofit project at a professional sports arena in Southern California. Over the course of three years, the facility replaced the fill in of its three BAC Series 3000 cooling towers — one tower per year — as part of a long-term maintenance plan. The first two towers’ fill packs were replaced with BAC’s VersaCross replacement fill, a hanging-style fill that matched the fill originally installed. The fill in the third tower was replaced with a block-style fill.
An independent testing company conducted side-by-side tests comparing the performance of the cell with the block fill to the performance of one of the cells with the hanging-style fill.
