Manufacturers and OEMs are replacing the old classes of chemical refrigerants that emit potent greenhouse gases — hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), for instance.
As the largest exposition dedicated to the ammonia and natural refrigeration industry, the annual IIAR Natural Refrigeration Conference and Expo provides a unique opportunity for engineers, end users, wholesalers, manufacturers and contractors involved in natural refrigeration using ammonia and carbon dioxide to gather, learn and share.
Danfoss was recognized with the Product of the Year award at the 2018 AHR Expo for its Turbocor TTH/TGH high lift compressors. They are designed to give chiller manufacturers a high efficiency, oil-free compressor option for air-cooled chillers, heat recovery and water-to-water heat pumps.
Goodway Technologies, Stamford, Conn., developed calculators to help facility managers determine how much descaler is required. Those responsible for maintenance of chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, compressors or condensers will benefit.
Danfoss Turbocor Compressors will build a new facility in Tallahassee, Fla., and add 120 new jobs. The plant will expand the company’s existing footprint within Innovation Park in Tallahassee, which includes its engineering and manufacturing operations.
Howden acquired Siemens Turbomachinery Equipment businesses in Europe (Frankenthal, Germany; Helsingoer, Denmark; and Mornago, Italy) and China (Beijing). The company also acquired a Siemens Energy business in Springfield, Mo., to augment its line of compressors, blowers, fans and steam turbines for turbomachinery solutions.
The CO2 ammonia cascade system extends the capabilities of Emerson’s line of Copeland scroll compressors. As EPA regulations continue to evolve, ammonia serves as an energy-efficient offering, using waste heat from a facility’s refrigeration system for other heat and air-conditioning applications.
Danfoss expanded its portfolio of compressors with low global warming potential (GWP) by introducing an option to use R-513A. The company also added to its operating map range to cover low lift applications for the TT Series compressor family.
Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration, Stone Mountain, Ga., released a low temperature screw compressor condensing unit. Intended for low temperature applications in the cold storage market, the model was designed to complement to the company’s existing medium and high temperature options.
