Choosing a cooling system for an electrical enclosure is an important task that is not always as simple as it might seem. Even with access to resources such as cooling capacity calculators, selecting an appropriate cooling system can be challenging, especially if you have never gone through the process before.
Dirty and fouled cooling tower water often plagues maintenance teams that manage industrial cooling towers. A dirty cooling tower can have a detrimental effect on the overall health of the plant’s water infrastructure, leading to lower efficiencies and increased costs.
In this issue of Process Cooling, our cover story looks at using nondestructive testing to detect leaks, thinning vessel or piping walls, or moisture within (and corrosion beneath) insulation. The damaging effects of corrosion under insulation are particularly perilous in ammonia refrigeration systems.
Developed to enhance the safety, reliability, effectiveness and longevity of insulated piping and vessels, IIAR released Guideline for Insulation on Ammonia Refrigeration Systems. The guide focuses on the appropriate steps in installing insulation systems for cold piping and equipment on new and existing ammonia refrigeration systems.
A heavy industry company in Chile will utilize electrodialysis reversal technology to recycle its wastewater. The FlexEDR system, provided by Richmond, B.C.-based Saltworks in partnership with Chile’s VIGAflow, will use Saltworks’ proprietary ion-exchange membranes.
A new facility increases the cryogenic pump production capacity for Las Vegas-based Nikkiso Cryo Inc. The company, a member of Nikkiso Clean Energy and Industrial Gases Group, a part of Nikkiso Co. Ltd. in Japan, says the larger facility was needed due to growing demand for the cryogenic pump products and services they provide to the global liquefied natural gas market.
Munters is relocating its employees in Virginia to a new facility to enable expansion of its data center cooling segment. The company will invest $36 million in a 365,000 ft2 facility that will house manufacturing, research and development, and sales. The build-to-suit facility is located in Botetourt County, Va.
