Held Wednesday, May 24 at the Process Heating & Cooling Show in Rosemont, Ill., the 2023 ASTI Safety Day — hosted by the Ammonia Safety & Training Institute (ASTI) in partnership with the Global Cold Chain Association, IIAR and RETA — will reveal how to put more action in your emergency action plan and how to prevent, mitigate and prepare to stop emergency events when they are small.

An ammonia safety training day and a combustion safety workshop are among the educational offerings of the 2023 Process Heating & Cooling Show. The show, which will be held on May 24-25 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill., will include training provided by leading organizations as a part of the conference program.

During the one-day program on March 12, all aspects of pressure vessel selection, design, inspection and maintenance/repair will be examined. The event kicks off the conference program and exhibition of the 2023 IIAR Natural Refrigeration Conference and Heavy Equipment Show will run from March 12-15 in Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif.

A release of ammonia forced a North Carolina food plant to evacuate, sending four workers to the hospital, according to a report. The company, which produces meat products, reported the incident on January 6 at its plant in Tar Heel, roughly 85 miles south of Raleigh.

A man was killed and another sent to the hospital after an ammonia leak at a food processing facility in Norwood, Mass., in December 2022.

ANSI/IIAR 1-2022, the standard for definitions and terminology used in other IIAR standards, was published by the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration. The American National Standards Institute and IIAR updated the standard to meet periodic maintenance requirements.
